What QuickBooks does for certified payroll
QuickBooks Online. In June 2026 Intuit announced that "you can use QuickBooks Workforce Elite to create certified payroll reports," drafting a weekly WH-347 that you then complete and submit [Intuit]. Per Intuit's help article, you still enter the project ID, wage determination number, certified payroll number and worker entry numbers, apprentice and journeyworker details, and sign the Statement of Compliance; and time must come from the QuickBooks weekly timesheet, not the Time app workflow [Intuit help]. Setup needs a project, a weekly pay schedule, and custom pay types for each classification (for example "Painter ST" and "Painter OT") [Intuit help].
Price. Intuit's payroll pricing page listed Workforce Elite at $134 a month plus $17 per employee when we checked on October 8, 2026 (Workforce Premium $88 + $13; Workforce Payroll $50 + $7), before promotions [Intuit]. Prices change; check Intuit's page.
QuickBooks Desktop. Desktop Payroll has a Certified Payroll Report that builds in Excel: Reports, then Employees & Payroll, then More Payroll Reports in Excel, then Certified Payroll Report [Intuit help].
Export steps (QuickBooks Online Payroll)
- Go to Reports, then Standard reports.
- Scroll to the Payroll section (or search by name) and open Payroll Details. Payroll Summary by Employee also works [Intuit help].
- Set the date range to the pay period, then select Apply.
- Export to Excel: Intuit's articles show the menu as Export/Print then Export to Excel, or Share then Export To Excel, depending on the report [Intuit help] [Intuit help].
- If you use QuickBooks Time, also run Time Activities by Employee Detail for the same dates and export it. It has hours by date, so the daily grid fills itself.
Pay every two weeks? Export the whole pay period. The WH-347 is weekly, so the period has to be split by workweek; LevelWage does that by date and notes it in the remarks.
What a payroll export does not have
A normal payroll report has names, hours, rates, gross, taxes, deductions and net. A WH-347 also needs:
- The WD classification for each worker (not the QuickBooks job title or pay item name).
- Daily hours split into straight time and overtime.
- Fringe: plan credit per hour (6B) and cash in lieu (6C), and the plan table on page 2.
- J or RA, and the apprenticeship program.
- The project, contract number, WD number and modification, and the payroll number.
Build the WH-347 from your QuickBooks export
Upload the Payroll Details file to LevelWage. We read it, you pick each worker's classification once (remembered next week) and check the daily hours, and every line is recomputed against your WD before you get the WH-347 package back.
