Federal and state prevailing wage

Two systems can apply to the same job. Davis-Bacon covers construction paid for or assisted with federal money, using wage determinations published on SAM.gov; those are the rates on these pages. State prevailing wage laws cover state and local public works, using rates from each state's labor agency, with their own thresholds and payroll filing systems. Each state page explains how the two fit together there.

Frequently asked questions

What is a prevailing wage?
The minimum hourly pay (base rate plus fringe benefits) for each trade on a public construction job, set for the county and the type of construction. Federal rates come from Davis-Bacon wage determinations; state rates from each state's labor agency.
How do I find the prevailing wage for my county?
For federal or federally funded work, use the WD lookup or pick your state below. For state or local public works, use the state agency's rates linked on each state page. Your contract lists the rates that apply.
Which construction type is my project?
Building, residential, heavy or highway. The contracting agency decides and writes it into the contract with the WD. See construction types.
